Everyone has a chance to live a long and happy life, but health and longevity will not come by themselves.
And it is unlikely that they will be provided by someone else: the State, the government, the employer, relatives, and so on.
Only personal responsibility. For yourself and your health. Today. Now. Regardless of age.
There are simple principles of prevention that are generally available and known to everyone, but for some reason are not applied in life
Today I would like to talk about health, responsibility, and a little bit about debt.
We live in an interesting time. More than ever before, we have the opportunity to live as long, happy and healthy a life as possible. But to do this, you need to take responsibility for your health. Today. Here. Now. Regardless of your age.
When we talk about health for some reason, we are not just ready, but demand that someone else take responsibility for our health. Anyone. The state, it is generally obliged to us for the rest of our lives, we were born in it. Doctors should force us to get diagnosed, take medications, and do whatever it takes to keep us healthy. The employer must ensure that, given the opportunity, to understand. Our family should lead us by the hand. Everyone else should, except us. But we don’t owe anyone anything. Especially to myself for my health. Let’s try to figure out what you can do to maximize your longevity and health.
At the heart of everything is taking responsibility for your health. We need to understand that no one needs our health as much as we need it. Any other actions are an infantile attempt to shift responsibility, which will not lead to anything good.
Of course, there is a great temptation to shift the responsibility to science and medicine, because they are so actively developing. But let’s think about how realistic it is to create a magic pill, taking which you can be healthy, happy, and live a very long time. After all, we are biological beings, one way or another we obey biological laws. Of course, we have the opportunity to cheat somewhere: we can cure most of the diseases with antibiotics or other drugs, we can extend the life span and maintain the quality of life in cancer and cardiovascular diseases. But these are all crutches, a way to deceive nature. It is still based on biological functioning. And many of these diseases are the result of an incorrect lifestyle. A lifestyle that does not correspond to the basic biological functioning of our body.
We are natural beings and we have a need for physical activity, for getting the right, healthy food to build our cells, for the functioning of our nervous, endocrine and other systems. We need to get information, but healthy and correct, not garbage. We need to interact with each other. We are social beings, and it is vital for us to interact with each other. Without these conditions, we will not be able to live a healthy and fulfilling life. As much as we would like to, everything else is more or less likely to be a surrogate.
Prevention is based on fairly simple things that most people already know about, but in the area of taking responsibility, it can become a brick for someone, a weight on the scales of decision-making that will help them think about responsibility for their health and start some actions.
So, what do we mean by prevention?
First of all, you need to understand that prevention is a fairly long — term investment in your health, which is very difficult to understand precisely because we do not get an instant result. After all, if someone gets sick and gets a diagnostic procedure and then treatment, we get a quick result: we feel bad, we get pills, we get better. But it is quite difficult to invest years, or even decades, in not getting sick, so that you don’t get sick. It is difficult to constantly maintain this motivation, which will allow you not to stop spending time, effort, and resources on this. After all, what you do today will not affect the fact that tomorrow, but rather in 10-20-30 years and not an improvement in your condition, and not a deterioration that can only be assessed against the background of your peers, when most of them will feel bad, and you will feel much better compared to them. Here again, there is a temptation to say that ” they led the wrong way of life, and I would, even if I led a normal lifestyle, would feel normal, because I am different from everyone else, I am unique.” But this is another infantile model of behavior that will not give any result.
In order to understand what needs to be done for prevention and whether it really helps, it is enough to read the research, which exists quite a lot and which prove that it is preventive measures that can significantly improve the duration and quality of life and reduce the likelihood of disease.
For example, now there are many studies that say that with timely detection of foci of infection and their timely sanitation, taking anti-inflammatory drugs, even such problems as cancer and cardiovascular diseases are reduced by more than 50%. But if we look at cardiac resuscitation, where patients lie after cardiovascular disasters, even there people often do not listen to these recommendations and after something like this has happened to them.
Perhaps it makes sense to take a system solutions at the State level, but, again, the shifting of responsibility, now we are able to do something. If we talk about state programs, we can cite the example of Singapore, where during medical examinations people who have the right to refuse colonoscopy refuse it, but then, if they suspect colon cancer, they are forced to pay for the entire diagnosis themselves, which is about 60 thousand dollars. People who smoke, and then they have a problem with neoplasms of the bronchopulmonary system are forced to pay for all diagnostic measures at their own expense, about 90 thousand dollars. In the US, if you smoke, your insurance will cost twice as much. And many other examples where the state forces citizens to think about these problems and hits the pocket in such cases. How much this helps or hinders is difficult to judge, but Singapore currently has one of the best health systems in terms of detecting and treating cancer.
Of course, it is difficult to understand and accept that prevention is necessary, important and systematic. To do this, you need to maintain a constant level of motivation, significance, what is called a dominant.
10 basic rules of prevention.
- Getting rid of bad habits. Smoking is still one of the main factors that cause both cardiovascular problems and malignant neoplasms.
2. Movement. Our body is built on a physical response to external stimuli. First, it is related to working out the stress response. Secondly, our lymphatic system is adapted to work only when muscles contract. It does not have its own ways of pumping lymph, so all the dynamics are due to muscle contraction, and the lymphatic system is responsible for the immune response. In the cardiovascular system, although there is a heart that pumps blood, it is not able to pump venous blood independently. Blood moves through the veins largely due to muscle contraction. When the muscles do not work, do not contract, they are atrophied, the load on the heart increases significantly, which leads to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. And the metabolism involves large muscle groups and can not occur without loads and physical work.
3. Mode. We, as biological beings, are subject to circadian rhythms, changing seasons and days. The body is much more comfortable to exist when we observe one or another mode: the mode of rising at about the same time, the mode of eating, the mode of going to bed, work, rest, interaction with other people. This makes it possible to predict the production of hormones, neurotransmitters, and biologically active substances in the body, and it begins to function more stably and efficiently, which affects the quality of health and quality of life.
4. Sleep is a reflection of our psychoemotional and physical state. On the one hand, it is often violated when we have problems in the psychoemotional sphere or with health, and on the other hand, we bring ourselves to a violation of the mode of existence, functioning during the day to such a state that primary sleep is disturbed and then it leads to violations of the functioning of organs and systems and affects our psyche.therefore, sufficient time, high-quality, regular sleep with the same time of going to bed and waking up, compensation for lack of sleep, if at some time we failed to sleep enough time, is mandatory for our health and normal functioning.
5. Nutrition, which today is one of the biggest problems along with physical inactivity. We live in unique circumstances when the majority of the population has no problems with either the quality of food or the quantity, and this allows us to consume it in any quantities for almost any income level, but the quality of food suffers, there is a dynamic in terms of increasing the amount of fat and calories and reducing in terms of the amount of biologically active substances: vitamins, trace elements and other substances necessary for the functioning of body systems, and therefore these things significantly affect our life, the quality of our life and our health, inducing a large number of diseases. Everyone knows that now diabetes and metabolic syndrome are actively growing, and this in turn becomes the basis for the development of other diseases, which are based on an imbalance of calories, carbohydrates, etc.
6. Vaccinations. This is a very controversial topic. Over the past few years, there have been very active battles between vaccinators and anti-vaccinators, which develop into serious consequences, people and children are dying. And here you need to understand that, of course, an important element is the prevention of diseases for which there are vaccinations, but in addition, the consequences are also significant. For example, with the flu, people who have had the flu have significantly higher risks of cardiovascular diseases and cancer within 10 years. In this case, vaccination is important both for the prevention of flu and for reducing the likelihood of diseases acquired later.
7. Hygiene. And if everyone knows about brushing their teeth, washing their hands and taking a shower since childhood, then very few people are familiar with psychological hygiene and few people observe it, and it is equally important, because now we function in a society with large psycho-emotional effects on our body. Mental health is a critical criterion for a healthy lifestyle. It is very important to properly filter the information received, build healthy, correct, harmonious relationships with others, work out your limitations, attitudes, neuroses, and solve these problems so that they do not affect the quality of your life. There is a whole section “Psychosomatic disorders”, where it is clearly scientifically proven that psychoemotional factors cause or aggravate a number of somatic diseases, including cancer problems.
8. Preventive examination. This area, in contrast to the previous ones, may entail costs, because the examinations that are being conducted today are aimed at identifying existing diseases, and it would be more competent to conduct them in order to identify trends in the occurrence of the disease and timely correction of lifestyle so that the disease does not have time to occur. This will be significantly cheaper for both the patient and the system health care, and will significantly improve the quality of life. But this is an expensive event in itself, and if a person does not take responsibility for himself, but expects that the state owes him, then it remains for him to state the presence of an emerging problem, deviation, or disease, and not to prevent its occurrence when it can be done quickly and effectively.
9. Attention to your body. It is important to pay attention to your skin, to the appearance of some moles, spots, inflammatory processes and promptly contact specialists: to dermatologists if there are inflammatory or fungal processes, to psychotherapists if neurodermatitis occurs as a reflection of a psychoemotional state. They are careless about rubbing their feet with uncomfortable shoes, and this potentially provokes the same inflammatory processes and can lead to more serious problems. Now you can see a strange fashion when wearing very tight, tight-fitting clothes, which worsens the metabolism, which can also lead to consequences. Teenagers in winter wear clothes where the ankle is completely naked in the cold, which never improves health prospects and can provoke consequences for the ankle joint and musculoskeletal system. In General, you need to look after yourself and use sound rationality in order not to create problems for yourself. Because the same tattoos, no matter how much you like them aesthetically, but potentially it can lead to inflammatory processes. Do you need to Express yourself in such a way that you can get tattoos and whether it is possible to do it in some other way, or at least apply a drawing without damaging the skin, because tattoos can cause both inflammatory processes and more far-reaching problems with neoplasms on the skin.
10. Maintaining your own documentation. Collect all your medical records and store them where they are easily accessible, because it may be that your doctor will need access to information and you will not be able to get it, which can directly harm the quality of diagnostics. It is also advisable to have your doctor, therapist, family doctor, who knows you, to which you can apply from anywhere in the world for advice, because we can be in a place where there is no access to immediate medical attention or other manipulations, which require other knowledge, such professional may, if not to save life, then at least reduce the effects on your health.
At the heart of just one thesis-take responsibility for your health. Understand that no one owes you anything, no one is motivated, no one is interested in you being healthy, living happily ever after. You don’t have to expect this from anyone. Only you can help yourself to live 10/20/30 years longer. Today, those who are 20-30 years old have every chance to live up to 90-100 years old healthy and happy enough, just by starting to monitor their health. Even those who are older have the opportunity to significantly increase the quality and duration of their lives, if they are puzzled by this issue and take this responsibility on themselves.
I hope that today’s story will somehow change your life, allow you to think about it differently, and by taking responsibility for yourself, I am sure that you will be able to reach a different level of quality and life expectancy. I will try to give some additional materials that will help to reveal some of the topics discussed today in more detail.
Be healthy and have a nice day.
